Film Infos
Looking for a crew member? Wanting to know when a certain film was made? Who was the sound recordist on Beyond Silence again? The Internet Movie Database, better known as IMDB, has all these and more answers. Now you can even vote for films you like - and those you don't. (Wonder how Titanic is doing?) As a new feature you can now search for mistakes made in the film... Shooting People is an email forum for uk filmakers, producers, scriptwriters, entertainment lawyers, arts funding bodies, actors, cinematographers - anyone working in uk independent film. Peeping Tom's is a little place in Soho, where the independent film community (or at least: parts of it) meet bi-weekly. They often have someone to talk about specific subjects. The one time I made it there - so far, that is - they managed to get the script writer of "The Full Monty". The page also lists upcoming events. Almost everyone seems to be talking about the Dogma 95, a declaration of some Danish film makers (Lars von Trier being the best known one) towards a more 'real' way of shooting film. Interesting, but disagreeable. Panico is a London-based workshop for the independent film community. A little bit of information about Panico, if you follow this link. There is a free filmmakers newsletter, Auteur, available. Alternatively, you might try the All Movie Guide, which is another credit database. Catering for the informational needs of independent film people, the dad database is supposed to satisfy your needs. At least some of them. For a list of film festivals try Webmovie. For The Love Of It is a non-profit web site where film and television industry professionals volunteer their time, offer advice and answer questions. No one there gets paid, and they do not accept commercial advertising. The BBFC has gone online. See what they've cut out of UK releases. If you are about to pen or key a new screenplay the Writers Guild of America site has one of the best lists of Internet research and writing resources. The list is extensive and diverse. Law, medicine, film statistics, search engines, science and screenwriter sites are a few of the categories listed. They also have some interviews with well-known film makers. Script-o-Rama has all kinds of, well, scripts. Titanic, Tarantino, you name it. They even offer first drafts of some films. The Cinema Crawler is a search engine that catalogues film related web sites. Everything from production companies, e-zines, director information etc. is categorically listed. It is a relatively new online database. What do I put on for a day out in the mean exterior? Why not ask the Meteorological Office. I you want to know what's up on a number of 'art' screens in London, why not join weeklyme. They'll e-mail you a weekly program which lists the program for the cinemas you chose. And it's free. Here you can find out more about my favourite director, Kristof Kieslowski. And while we are in Poland, you might want to have a look at supposedly one of the best cinematography schools in the world, located in Lodz. Unfortunately, all course work is in Polish. |
